Sergey Krasheninnikov, whom friends call Krosh, is a Moscow schoolboy. He spends his summer holidays without parents who went on vacation. Granted to himself, Krosh gets acquainted with the company of young people engaged in collecting netsuke. Vladimir Nikolaevich Lesnikov is leading in the company. "V. N. "- a scientist and lover of Japanese applied art. Krosh is fond of searching for carvings, but soon begins to guess that Vladimir Nikolaevich is driven primarily by selfish motivations.
