During the 1960s' a student and his girlfriend plan to design a new bridge over the river. Old one was destroyed during World War II, when Soviet Union hero Henrik (Genrikh) Zakaryan was forced to blow it up to cut off German troops. Two stories and two epoches intertwine revealing strong message of hero's morality to pass on to young generations.
